Vinyl has become trendy again in recent years with 3.5 million units sold in France in 2018 according to SNEP. And to celebrate that, at Distrolution Merch we offer you lots of super cool options to pimp your record. But first of all, it's important to define what quantity you want to press.

How to choose the right quantity of vinyl records?  

The most commonly ordered quantities are 250 or 300 copies. Does that already seem like a lot? Know that with these quantities, the unit price becomes really interesting to maximise your profit when you sell your album. Plus, you'll be selling at concerts, on your online store, even to record shops if you have a distribution deal. So it can go quickly, especially if you do a pre-order campaign online, with a limited edition.

And then, when you release your second album, you can always make a bundle with your vinyl records, so it's better to have a good stock. ;)

Once you've decided on this quantity, which options should you choose? 

We offer you plenty of options when it comes to vinyl. Regarding the diameter, you have the choice between 7", 10" and 12". For the number of revolutions, between 33 and 45. Plus lots of options to pimp your vinyl and its sleeve such as coloured, splatter or transparent records. You also have the possibility to print square or round booklets and inserts.

We would tend to recommend the 12" format or even 12" Gatefold, since it's a large format, the visuals will be bigger, it's more impressive, you know! You also gain in playing time and sound quality. For packaging, the advantage of the gatefold is that you have more space to insert your images, immerse the owner of your super vinyl in your universe and especially to stick as close as possible to the CD cover that you pressed in digipack or digisleeve.

7' and 10' are often favoured for singles, EPs or splits, or for grindcore albums!

Regarding packaging, we advise you to opt for a plastic sleeve rather than shrink-wrapping. It's the same price and has several advantages:

• The plastic packaging won't end up in your bin or in nature because it will allow you to protect your vinyl in your crate like any self-respecting collector
• You'll be able to easily slip a download card into each of your records. Small tip: you can print them from your Bandcamp. ;)
• You won't struggle at your merch stand to remove the cellophane, and damage the vinyl, for the clumsier ones, when fans ask you for an autograph on the sleeve.
• By choosing a sleeve packaging, you also have the option to order stickers that you can stick on top of your vinyl packaging. Indeed, it's not always easy to be identifiable, especially if your band's name is at the bottom of the sleeve... A good point to stand out from the crowd and highlight your band's strengths that will make the collector pull your vinyl out of the bin, and this at a low cost!

Our pro tips: For the release of your new album, go for coloured vinyl or even splatter. It allows you to create an exclusivity for the first pressing which will be a collector's item and will surely boost your sales. You're then free to do a second, more economical pressing on black vinyl once the first pressing is sold out.
